Jirawong Wongtrangon, or Ji as he is known to friends, works out of InClay Studio which is located in the tropical garden of his family home in Chiang Mai, Thailand. Ji creates one-of-a-kind hand-thrown ceramic pieces using natural glazes and draws inspiration from his natural surrounds.
From a young age, Ji knew he wanted to do work that was creative and experimental. His father was a natural craftsman and while he didn’t pursue it as a career, he showed Ji how to make things and mix colors together. As a child, Ji could often be found making toys from pieces of wood or experimenting with materials and objects.
Ji has a gentle character and is a perfectionist by nature. He regularly works twelve hours a da handcrafting uniquely designed ceramics. It takes him a minimum of one week to craft one perfect piece. Ji enjoys the ceramic process of using clay, fire, air and his own two hands. His favorite part of the process is waiting for pieces to come out of the kiln "you don’t always know how they are going to come out."
Ji's open-air garden studio is a popular hangout for fellow artist friends to drop by, play the guitar or collaborate on artistic projects.
